Free trial

Read a real code
off your own car.

The trial installs on any Windows PC and reads live fault codes from your vehicle. No account, no card, and no expiry countdown — take as long as you like.

Step 1

Choose which trial to download

Two trials, and the difference between them is the difference between the two editions most people buy. Both install the same way and neither needs a card.

AutoScan Standard packaging
Trial of Edition 01

AutoScan Standard

Reads the fault code and tells you what it means.

  • Stored and pending fault codes
  • Plain-English descriptions from the 14,309-code database
  • Works with any ELM327 adapter

AutoScan Enhanced packaging
Trial of Edition 02 · most popular

AutoScan Enhanced

Also shows you why the code was set.

  • Everything in the Standard trial
  • Live data from up to 90 sensors, and freeze frame
  • MOT readiness monitors, ABS and SRS airbag

Not sure? Take Enhanced. It does everything Standard does, and the extra screens are the ones that tell you which part is actually at fault.

Step 2

Everything except clearing and saving

The trial connects to your car and reads it properly. Two things are held back for the licensed version.

  • Connects to your adapter and your car, so you can prove it works
  • Reads stored and pending fault codes
  • Shows descriptions from the built-in 14,309-code database
  • Live data and freeze frame in the Enhanced trial
  • Unlimited time — there is no countdown

What needs a licence

  • Clearing codes and resetting the warning light
  • Saving or printing a diagnostic report

A licence key is emailed within minutes of your order and unlocks the copy you already installed — there is nothing to download again.

Step 3

You will need an adapter before it can read anything

One thing the software cannot do on its own

You will need an ELM327 adapter

AutoScan reaches your car through an ELM327 adapter that plugs into the OBD2 port under the dashboard — USB for a laptop, Bluetooth for a phone or tablet. They cost around £10–£30 and are sold everywhere. We are a software company and no longer sell hardware, so buy whichever you prefer.

Already own an ELM327 from another app — Torque, Car Scanner, FORScan? It will work here too. There is nothing to buy again.

What do I need to run the trial?

A Windows PC or laptop (Windows 7 through 11) and an ELM327 adapter. Nothing else.

Does the trial expire?

No. There is no countdown and no nag screen. It stays usable for as long as you want to evaluate it.

Which trial should I download?

Enhanced, unless you are certain you only ever want to read a code and turn the light off. Enhanced includes everything Standard does.

Will buying mean reinstalling?

No. The licence key unlocks the copy you already have.
