Autosafe Diagnostics Ltd
AutoScan was written in 2015 by a few developers who happened to be car enthusiasts, because we wanted to know what our own vehicles were actually reporting. It is still the same company, still maintained, and still sold direct.
How it started
We started as a very small business — a handful of developers who were also car enthusiasts, wanting to interact with our vehicles at a level the dashboard does not allow. There was no product plan. There was a warning light, a laptop, and the conviction that the car already knew the answer.
That became AutoScan Standard, and Autosafe Diagnostics Ltd was formed around it in 2015. Eleven years later the range covers everything from reading a single fault code to module-level ECU work, and it is used by people with one car on the drive as well as by garages and professional technicians.
We have sold on eBay for over five years alongside this site, which is where a lot of our customers first found us.
What we are for
To let anyone see what is happening inside their vehicle, rather than relying entirely on a garage to tell them. The car is already reporting the fault. The only question is who gets to read it.
We have spent over a decade building out the range across the UK and European market. The next ten years are about going further into module-level work and reaching more markets, while keeping the entry-level edition genuinely affordable.
Direct, one-off purchases with a lifetime licence key. No subscriptions, no renewal to keep the software working, and no hardware to ship, return or replace. What you buy is the software and the right to keep using it.
Straight answers
Most of our range is bought by people fixing their own car, and the most useful thing we can do is stop someone buying more than they need. AutoScan Enhanced is the right edition for the overwhelming majority of people. ULTRA and ULTIMATE exist for workshops doing module-level work, and we will say so rather than sell up.
The same applies to hardware. AutoScan needs an ELM327 adapter to reach the car, and we used to supply one. We do not any more — managing stock, postage and returns on a low-margin cable was a distraction from the software. Buy whichever adapter you like; we will tell you what to look for and support you either way.

We are a small team and we answer our own email. Support is included with every edition, for as long as you own it.
