What is an ELM327 cable?
An ELM327 cable is an OBD2 diagnostic scan tool which connects to the On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) plug in your vehicle and outputs information that it reads from your car into Autoscan. The software will then interpret this information for you and allow you to interact with your vehicle.
The output protocol (connection to computer) is done via USB.
The software supports two platforms – DOS and Windows.
How do you use OBD2 Cable?
Plug the standard OBD2 connector into the vehicle’s port located under the driver’s side of the dashboard. Turn on the car to power the scan tool or code reader.
Understanding your OBD Port:
The standard OBD2 interface is a 16-pin connector. OBD2 interfaces are the same, so if the interface has a 16-pin connector, your car is OBD2. If it looks different, your car is an OBD1. The OBD interface is usually located somewhere on the dashboard of the car.
